Amsterdam 2025

After a while, I'm writing something again. I was preparing for entrance exams, which didn't quite go as planned—but that's life. I guess it's meant to be that way, and life goes on. I have new goals ahead: improving my English, and of course—making the world a better place.

Amsterdam. Some might call it the "city of drugs and fun," but that's not quite accurate.

As luck would have it, we arrived in Amsterdam with our boat. Like a gift from above, we've been docked here for several days, which gave me the chance to explore the city. To soak up the local atmosphere, experience the culture, and visit some landmarks.

The city itself is amazing. It breathes history, and for a moment, you feel as if you're transported back in time—to when ships full of goods, people, and cultures arrived in Amsterdam. It's a city with the most diverse range of cultures from all around the world. Absolutely liberal and welcoming to everyone, no matter their religion, skin color, or orientation.

The city is interwoven with canals, filled with flowers everywhere, narrow alleys, and crowds of people strolling slowly—whether they're sightseeing or just enjoying the vibe.

Amsterdam offers a wealth of landmarks and highlights, such as the Basilica of Saint Nicholas, located near the central train station, which is also housed in a stunning historic building. Then there's the house where Rembrandt lived and created, and of course, the famous Van Gogh Museum, which features more than 400 of his works—the largest collection in the world.

The museum is definitely worth a visit, as are many other sights, like Dam Square, the Royal Palace, and the floating flower market.

You can take a ride on one of the many flower-adorned boats, relax in a café or restaurant—there are endless options on every corner. It's a perfect escape from everyday hustle and bustle, a chance to just unwind and take in the local atmosphere.

All around, you hear a mix of languages—a cultural blend where everyone's equal and people simply enjoy and savor each sunny day. You see thousands of people riding bicycles everywhere. Bikes are the most common means of transport here. People ride them to work—in suits or dresses—or just to meet up with friends at a bar or a café.

It's fascinating to just sit and watch people, feel the mood, the calm and peace that radiate throughout the city.

On nearly every corner, you'll also find the famous coffeeshops, where you can legally buy marijuana and other soft drugs. The city carries a light scent of marijuana—not overwhelming, more calming, pleasant, and it actually complements the atmosphere quite nicely.

Personally, I must say that Amsterdam left a deep impression on me. It's an entirely different experience than the rest of the Netherlands. People here are much more relaxed, welcoming, and no one pays unnecessary attention to you. There's a very liberal spirit everywhere.

I'll attach some photos to help convey the experience. If you want to explore the local culture and feel the peace and relaxation this city offers—and, of course, admire beautiful art like Van Gogh's—Amsterdam is definitely a place you should visit.
